This is a vintage image we created from a scan of an antique encyclopedia that illustrates the life story of mistletoe.

The original lithograph plate in our antique encyclopedia was black and white so we digitally remastered this image and gave it some color as well to make it a beautiful + lovely image to use for journaling, art or maybe even to use for teaching and in the classroom!

Mistletoe has a long and interesting history used in tradition for the holidays and Christmas time, though very few people are aware of how it grows! This life story illustration shows how it begins as a seed and grows over the branches of its host tree.

While this plant is often associated with Christmas, it is also highly toxic and can be lethal if consumed.
